Role: Campus Campaign Organizer 

 

Location and Timeline: We are hiring campus organizers for this position beginning January 8, 2025 and continuing through April 30, 2025. Organizers must be based in the Atlanta area. Candidates who have experience with, or are alumni of, Atlanta HBCU’s are strongly preferred. 

 

Who We Are: The Outreach Team is the national engine of campaigners and organizers powering the young-people vote movement. With an on-the-ground presence in communities all across the country, our world-class team runs successful civic engagement campaigns to build a future that’s fairer, healthier, safer and more peaceful for everyone. We are excited to once again be working with the Climate Action Campaign on a campaign to engage students and members of the campus community to take action on climate, clean energy,  jobs and health care. 

General Overview:

From extreme heat to more deadly storms, climate change is here and impacting our lives. The consequences will only grow if we fail to act boldly and swiftly to transition to clean energy and to invest in supporting impacted communities. President-elect Trump has rejected climate science and pledges to halt climate action and undermine climate investments and protections during his second term. In this critical moment, we must organize and act now to protect and defend climate solutions.
 

At HBCU’s, students and leadership are uniquely equipped to spearhead environmental and climate action movements. In order to elevate that power, the Campus Campaign Organizers will engage students and campus faculty and staff around climate change, jobs, health care, and action opportunities on campus and in their communities. The Organizer will start by building and recruiting a team of volunteers, activists, and campus faculty around petitions against attempts to undo climate protections from the Trump administration. From there, Organizers will continue to engage volunteers through a series of campaign events and actions. At the end of the campaign, Organizers will debrief with volunteers, professorial and faculty contacts and share information for how to stay involved with the Climate Action Campaign.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Recruit and Train a Community of Volunteer Activists
    • Call and text supporters and recruit them into grassroots actions. 
    • Identify new volunteers by gathering petitions, non-partisan pledges to vote and on-campus recruitment efforts.
    • Run grassroots skills trainings to develop effective campaigners among volunteers.
    • Keep meticulous track of a volunteer list so that no potential volunteer falls through the cracks.
    • Represent the campaign through participation in community spaces and events, while engaging and uplifting coalition and partner organizations.
  • Generate Campaign Actions
    • Gather over a thousand petitions on campus.
    • Generate hundreds of additional actions targeting President Trump and his administration, with a particular focus on social media posts, phone calls, postcards, and photo petitions.
    • Recruit and train volunteers to generate more petitions and volunteer engagement at events.
    • Recruit and engage with faculty and professors on campus to build meaningful relationships while generating professor/faculty sign-ons.
  • Organize Events on Campus
    • Organize and execute in-person events demonstrating support for climate, jobs, and health care action and excitement around the upcoming election including educational events, trainings, rallies, and more.
    • Educate students, faculty and others on campus about the historic climate investments in the Inflation Reduction Act and the urgency of continued actions to reduce emissions. 
    • Nail 100% of all messaging and legal requirements and ensure that volunteers do the same.
  • Manage Digital Campaign, Data Management, and Reporting Tools
    • Demonstrate public support by recruiting volunteers to post on their own social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
    • Use peer-to-peer texting services and relational organizing tools to communicate with community members.
    • Send timely and compelling email campaigns to recruit activists to campaign activities.
    • Track every interaction with detailed notes in order to report numbers daily and write weekly reports on the results of the campaign.

Nice-to-Haves, but Not Required:

 
  • Experience with, or are alumni of, Atlanta HBCU’s preferred. 
  • Experience working for nonprofits and issue campaigns.
  • Data Management and Evaluation Experience: Experience working with various data management systems and tools, mainly Google Suite.
  • Experience with Relevant Campaign Tools and Technologies: Action Network, ThruText, MailChimp, eCRMs like EveryAction, or social media tools (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).
  • Event or Project Planning & Management, Implementation or Evaluation.
  • Knowledge or previous experience working on this issue is a plus, but not required.
  • Candidates with campus organizing experience and/or recent graduates of the above institutions are preferred.
 

If you were here right now, you would be:

 
  • Recruiting, training and developing activist leaders on your campus to register voters, collect voter pledges, and educate other students on how to take climate action.
  • Planning and executing events around climate action, jobs, and health care including, but not limited to: phonebanking, petitioning, visibility events, educational events, and more. 
  • Developing relationships with campus faculty and professors on climate action, jobs, health care and gathering signatures for a faculty sign-on letter.
  • Engaging and expanding the Climate Action Campaign support network through public visibility actions, voter outreach, and relationship building.
 

Salary, Benefits and Perks:

The salary for this position is $50,000 - $59,600 commensurate with experience. Salary within this range is determined through an equity calculator. As part of The Outreach Team’s commitment to compensation equity and transparency, we have a no negotiation policy. Salary negotiations can introduce bias and perpetuate wage inequality. At the end of the campaign, there may be opportunities for advancement. We offer a generous benefits package, including:
