Role Overview
We're seeking an experienced Roving Fundraising Director to manage high-impact field operations that combine voter contact canvassing with face-to-face fundraising campaigns. In this role, you'll lead a dynamic team of 8-12+ staff members to exceed ambitious goals for donor acquisition, voter outreach, and constituency engagement. This position requires a hands-on leader who will canvass daily alongside their team, drive strategic planning, and build a culture of excellence and accountability. This is a full-time position for an experienced campaign director, and significant travel is required.
The position is primarily on the road, with assignments lasting four to seven days on average, and downtime to work remotely from home in between in-office assignments. You should expect to work 40-60 hours per week, including evenings and weekends, depending on how close to elections or other deadlines your project is. We cover the cost of travel and housing when you are out on assignments.
Responsibilities
Hit Campaign Deliverables
- Manage a team that meets or exceeds weekly and monthly donor acquisition, donor retention, and average gift amount goals
- Oversee teams signing up an average of 50 to 80 donors per week
- Develop strategic plans to reach target voters and constituencies in assigned locations
- Lead by example by canvassing daily (independently and/or with staff) to achieve individual and team goals
- Implement and manage quality control measures to ensure integrity of the work
- Analyze data and report back to leadership to flag trends and identify opportunities
Staff Management & Team Building
- Manage a team of 8-12+ full-time and part-time staff, including potential deputy directors, field directors, and hourly canvass staff
- Develop, motivate, and manage a team to hit their goals by ensuring they have the tools and skills to do the job well through training and development opportunities, 1:1 and team meetings, and information sharing on campaign and current events
- Identify, promote, and train leaders within your team
- Maintain high performance standards and provide consistent feedback and evaluation, holding staff accountable and having tough conversations when necessary
- Train staff on canvassing techniques, fundraising best practices, campaign strategy, and operational procedures
- Fundraise and canvass with staff to lead by example and offer in-field training to further grow and develop in their role
- Facilitate an office culture that is fun and professional where people like to come to work and they can show up as their full and authentic selves
- Build diverse teams where staff feel respected while fostering a culture of equity and justice
- Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all staff
Operations & Administration
- Create fundraiser and canvasser schedules, develop turf plans, oversee daily logistics
- Track field and donor information, process payroll, ensure all tools and technology necessary for success in the field are available and functional
- Anticipate workflow and manage the schedules and quality of work for employees
- Ensure company policies are upheld, including holding staff accountable to performance, integrity, health, safety, and professionalism standards
- Manage onboarding, including occasionally interviewing and offering candidates
- Manage administrative duties, including reporting data, record-keeping, and distributing materials
- Ensure your team adheres to HR requirements and recommendations

Qualifications
Must Have
- Experience running paid canvasses or managing fundraising operations (face-to-face fundraising experience required)
- Commitment to canvassing daily to train, coach, model best practices, and drive office goals
- At least two years of staff management experience, especially in campaigns, canvass operations, field organizing, or fundraising
- Goal-oriented with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets
- Strong management skills, including the ability to motivate and inspire a team while also holding staff accountable
- Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
- Organized and able to learn and manage operational systems like payroll and staff schedules
- Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others
- Can speak compellingly about campaign issues and strategy
- Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement
- Committed to equity and inclusion with a track record of building diverse teams
- Trainable and open to learning new skills
- Willingness to delegate responsibility and work in a team
- Flexible; ready for the unexpected and willing to adapt to last-minute changes
- Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends
- Car and valid driver's license

- Local knowledge/experience in multiple regions
