General Overview:
The Field Director will recruit, train, and manage a team of local canvassers to contact voters at the door promoting the right to abortion access and reproductive freedom. The Field Director is expected to train voter contact canvassers in the field while canvassing themselves to lead by example; they must also communicate long and short-term goals to staff and manage campaign reporting.
Locations: La Crosse, WI
Preference for local candidates
Timeline: Starts Mid September for the midterm campaign cycle
Canvass Management Responsibilities:
Manage a team of 15–20 hourly staff who will canvass door to door to talk to voters about defending reproductive rights.
Canvass yourself several days a week to train staff and drive office goals
Set goals and hold staff accountable to them
Train and provide ongoing motivation and support to staff
Identify, promote, and train a leadership team
Build a diverse team where staff feel respected while fostering a culture of equity and justice
Implement quality control measures to ensure the integrity of the work
Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all staff
Develop strategic plans to reach targeted voters in assigned locations
Manage administrative duties, including reporting data, record keeping, processing payroll, and distribution of materials
Qualifications:
Must Have:
Leadership experience; ability to motivate, grow, and manage a large team
Eagerness to lead from the front and canvass several days a week
Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others
Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement
Track record of equity and inclusion
Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends
Nice to Have:
Experience running paid canvasses or managing paid employees
Familiarity with VAN and MiniVAN
Experience working in underserved or marginalized communities
Facilitation experience
Local knowledge/experience
Salary:
The salary range for this position is $1,146 – $1,500 per week. We offer a generous benefits package, including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and hands-on training. At the end of the campaign, there may be opportunities for advancement and bonuses.
